Tapion Hospital

Under the distinguished patronage of her Excellency Dame Pearlette Loiuisy, Governor General of St. Lucia, in the West Indies, a ceremony was held on August 26th 2010, at the Tapion Hospital, Castries, St. Lucia at 4.30 p.m. to celebrate and receive the certificate of accreditation obtained from Accreditation Canada International on hospital accreditation.

The program was opened with an opening prayer followed by 4 speeches, the first opening remarks made by Dr. Alison Plummer, Chairperson of the supreme committee of the Board of Directors for total Quality and Safety, followed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Christian Husbands, then by the Medical Director of the hospital Dr. Romel Daniel Consultant/Cardiologist F.R.C.P., FESC, and last by Mrs. Sybil Henry Martial, Hospital Executive Director

The Medical Director, Dr. Romel Daniel, pointed out that a delegation from the Accreditation Canada International had visited Tapion hospital for the first time in March 2009 to prepare an initial report on the performance of Tapion Hospital. After their assessment, the hospital was chosen along with four other health facilities from as far as Asia to South America, to work as one of their international pilot projects aimed to attain accreditation standards for the first time over a period of 15 months.

In addition, the Executive Director, Mrs. Sybil Henry Martial congratulated and thanked all who had contributed to this significant accomplishment ,and went on to outline the hospital's committed journey throughout the process.

Finally, Nurse Eleanore Vaudroque, the Risk Management Officer of the hospital, presented Dr. Lisa Charles with a plaque of appreciation for her excellent working relationship as the local co-coordinator between Accreditation Canada International and Tapion Hospital.
