 THREE YEAR CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL ACCREDITATION – GOLD June 29th, 2010: TAPION HOSPITAL AWARDED Tapion Hospital is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a Three-Year Accreditation by Accreditation Canada International. This Canadian accreditation body is one of the largest and is well respected in the World. Tapion Hospital is the only private hospital in the Eastern Caribbean Region, and the only hospital in the O.E.C.S. to have achieved full accreditation for the following services: Acute Patient Care and Safety Medicine Services Control & prevention of infections in hospitals Surgical Care Services Effective Organization Sustainable Governance Interdisciplinary in-patient and outpatient care This accreditation decision represents a high level of confidence awarded to an organization and shows the organization’s substantial conformance to the Canadian standards. An organization receiving a Three-Year Accreditation has put itself through rigorous peer review process and has demonstrated to a team of surveyors during an on-site visit that its programs and services are of high quality, measurable, and accountable. In its comprehensive accreditation report, Canada Accreditation specifically highlighted numerous strengths at the hospital, including: an interdisciplinary medical team of dedicated professionals with long outstanding service committed to quality improvement; the beautiful and clean facility: the array of educational resources; its strong leadership, and patients’ high rating of care, accessibility and responses to their needs. Achieving this high level of Canadian accreditation clearly demonstrates Tapion hospital’s expertise and leadership in acute care, while we strive to provide our patients with advanced technology, paired with a very skilled and caring staff, to ensure that patients can make the fullest possible recoveries. Founded in 1996, Tapion hospital is the island’s only and first private hospital. It provides acute patient care, as well as other outpatient medical services. Tapion Hospital hosts 2nd Annual Heart Clinic for Children 24th March, 2010 The Tapion Hospital Foundation, in collaboration with International Hospital for Children (IHC) of Virginia, USA is presently hosting the 2nd Annual Pediatric Cardiac Clinic at the Tapion Hospital on Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th March.. Over 40 children, accompanied by their parents, are being assessed with regard to optimization of treatment and heart surgery in Virginia, USA. Last year, following the first clinic, four (4) St. Lucian children with heart problems had surgery in the USA at no cost. Over the last 12 months, Pediatricians, throughout the island, have been seeing children to be referred to St. Lucian Cardiologist Dr. Romel Daniel, for preparation for the IHC clinic. The IHC group comprises Pediatric Cardiologist Dr. Bill Moskowitz, and Ms. Jackie King, Eastern Caribbean Coordinator. All the children, who hail from throughout the island are being seen in Tapion Hospital for free. The Tapion Hospital Foundation, the charity arm of the Tapion Hospital is pleased, through its actions, to again facilitate advanced health care to the people of Saint Lucia. TOURIST'S LIFE SAVED BY PACEMAKER IMPLANTATION IN SANIT LUCIA 14th April, 2010 British tourist, Mrs. Susan Sayer, recently had her life saved by the emergency implantation of a temporary cardiac pacemaker, followed by a dual chamber permanent pacemaker at the Tapion Hospital in Castries, Saint Lucia. Dr Romel Daniel, FRCP (UK), FESC, who coincidentally did his post graduate cardiology training in the UK, was pleased to lead the team that recognized, Mrs. Sayer recurrent "epileptic seizures" were actually her heart rate repeatedly dropping to the very low 24 beats per minute. Mrs. Sayer was found collapsed by her husband, in their Landings Resort room, during their holiday to Saint Lucia in February, 2010. She was referred to Tapion Hospital, where the temporary heart pacemaker was inserted on the evening of her admission to hospital. Twenty fours later the Medtronic cardiac pacemaker was successfully implanted by the Tapion team. Mrs. Sayer was able to leave hospital, to continue her holiday symptom free for another week Keyhole surgery continues at Tapion Hospital by Dr. John George of the Washington Hospital Center Date - 12th March 2009 Advanced Gynecological Laparoscopic (Keyhole) Surgery continues at Tapion Hospital during the week starting 23rd February, 2009. This project was the brainchild of Dr. Trona Bennett, who passed away in January. Fifty patients from Saint Lucia, Barbados and Trinidad were successfully operated on by Dr. John George FACOG, training local gynecologists and surgeons, as well as a doctor from Barbados. This keyhole surfery project has now seen 50 patients operation on, with shorter hospital stay, quick recovery time, and excellent cosmetic results.Tapion Hospital is committed Dr. Bennett;s dream of making Tapion Hospital the center for Laparoscopic surgery in the region. The next session of keyhole operations is scheduled for September 2009. COSEHC is please to announce that Tapion Hospital has been recognized as a new Center of Excellence. Located in St. Lucia, West Indies, this 25-bed community funded hospital is a partnership between the private and public sector. Private physicians work together with the government of St. Lucia and Ministry of Health in development of guidelines, provision of services and national prevention strategies including a focus on diabetes, hypertension, CHF, stroke, and vascular diseases. The Consortium for South-eastern Hypertension Control is a nonprofit organization created in 1992 to improve the disproportionate hypertension-related morbidity and mortality throughout the region. |
